The Pirelli Calendar: 40 Years The Complete Works

February 26, 2007

The Pirelli Calendar: 40 Years, The Complete Works hardcover is 8.07 pounds and 544 pages published by Rizzoli Publications New York and contains of some of the world’s best fashion and female photography from some of the best photographers and models of the past 40 years.

The Official Pirelli Calendar web site
The Pirelli Calendar is one of my greatest photographic inspirations!
It is a funny to me how similar the web design of The Pirelli Calendar and my own blog is. I had NOT seen the Pirelli site before I designed my website. I definitely wanted to have a black and white color scheme or lack of colors to be exact.
Also it was important that the photos would be centered in a black frame in the middle of the page in front of a white background simulating a museum visiting experience.
I guess it is true that great minds think alike! :)

Asexual Rubber Mascot or Supermodels With Curves To Die For?
The World’s Sexiest Nude Supermodels or the out of shape pudgy Michelin Man?
That is the question! Why has a tire company been producing these great photographic publications? Why else: genius marketing and sales!

In my humble opinion the advertising agency for Michelin fell asleep at the wheel so to speak. This is the glaring and perfect example of the difference between free thinking creativity and boring safe thinking.

In 1963 the Pirelli tire company created a calendar featuring pin-up models as a promotional piece to send to its top customers as a gift for the closing year. World-renowned photographers such as Richard Avedon, Mario Testino, Peter Lindergh, Herb Ritts, Norman Parkinson, Bruce Weber, and Annie Leibovitz photographed the world’s most beautiful women, including Iman, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Laetitia Casta, Kate Moss, and many others.

The Pirelli Calendar has continued to generate much excitement and publicity for its exclusivity: it is only available to a very privileged list of corporate customers and VIPs.
