Reduce Content Theft With WP-CopyRightPro WordPress Plugin

The title says “Reduce Content Theft” because the only way to prevent content theft is not to make the content available online.

If you wish to monitor how much content is copied from your website I recommend the excellent Tynt Tracer.

With that said WP-CopyRightPro WordPress Plugin does an excellent job to deter the casual right-clicker. It works out of the box after installation, no configuration is needed.

WP-CopyRightPro allows you to:

WP-CopyRightPro claims it doesn’t cause any conflict with search engines. That disclaimer probably is meant to be addressing the feature concerning iframes.

Some sinister iframe scripts not only break pages out of frames but also prevent the visitor to use the browser’s Back button. WP-CopyRightPro does not disable the use of the Back button!

If you wish to see breaking out of frames in action just do an image search for MySpace.com.
Once you click on a photo you will see that the MySpace page loads briefly with the familiar Google frame on top but it immediately breaks out of frames.

This should also give you piece of mind, if MySpace breaks out of frames it is probably not “illegal”. Just in case someone does not know what frames look like:

Google Image Result frame

Couple of notes about breaking out of frames; it’s supposed to increase page views, the time visitors spend on your website and some say can even increase Adsense revenue due to the lack of distraction offered by the Google frame and because more of your page is showing (without the frame).

There is something else: if you use Google Analytics or other web traffic tracking your visitors who arrive from image searches will no longer have images.google.com as their referrals.
Therefore you will be unable to track your traffic from image sources as you have been – those visitors will show up as direct traffic.

Of course anyone with JavaScript turned off will be able to bypass the protection WP-CopyRightPro offers or they can look at the page source and get the content that way.
