Tom Altany of Altany Photography is a location and studio photographer based in
Pittsburgh, PA. Tom’s 1000 square feet studio is centrally located in Pittsburgh in the Bloomfield/Shady Side area. His photographic studio in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is well equipped with everything a photographer needs to create a successful photo shoot.
Tom’s studio is available for other photographers to rent per day upon request.

Tom has a Fine Art Bachelor’s degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology of
Rochester, Pennsylvania. Tom began his career in the competitive commercial and
editorial photography market in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In Minneapolis, Tom got his
first photographic experience with large advertising agencies, graphic design firms, art buyers, and well known magazines. He then decided to return to his roots in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Tom came back to Pittsburgh to pioneer the first staff photographer at Pittsburgh Magazine and WQED Multi Media. He there created
his unique editorial portrait style that has gotten him more editorial and commercial
work.
Tom’s Commercial Photography – His distinctive photographic style has brought him
work doing national advertising campaigns photographing everything from people to the
outdoor life and table top products to architectural interiors.

Tom’s Editorial Portrait Photography – His creative touch captures one’s inner
beauty. Tom has gotten to work with some of the best national and local magazines. He
really enjoys working with models, but even more photographing the realness of
everyday people. In his Pittsburgh studio, Tom has created some of the most beautiful
black and white and color portraits.

Tom’s Fine Art Photography – Fine art photography is probably Tom’s most
imaginative work. He brings to life some of his most off beat concepts through his
digital camera. One of Tom’s favorite pieces is his image, The Last
Snack. The Last Snack was created for a competition he Chaired for the Pittsburgh Chapter of the ASMP.
Tom Altany is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP)
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Chapter. Tom feels that it is important to work with other
photographers to educate and learn from each other.

When Tom is not doing photography professionally, he is always working on new
photographic lighting techniques. He feels that any good photographer should be well
versed in all aspects of lighting. Tom also keeps current by educating himself on new
PhotoShop and other photographic programs.
