LEARN MORE about me in my INTERVIEW WITH ASSOCIATED CONTENT below!
I had the perfect opportunity to talk to licensed aesthetician and professional make-up artist Miriam from South Florida. What makes Miriam even more unique is the fact she is the owner and creator of Visages Make-up & Hair located in South Florida. Anyways, here is what she had to tell me...
Sarah: Tell me a little about yourself...
Miriam: I'm a licensed aesthetician and professional makeup artist serving the South Florida area throughout Broward, Dade & Palm Beach. My company name is VISAGES Makeup & Hair, you can view examples of my work and contact me for booking at:

Sarah: Did you just wake up one morning and say "I am going to be a make-up artist". How did you know make-up was something you were passionate about? How did you get involved in the make-up industry?
Miriam: I knew I wanted to be a makeup artist since I was 10 years old!! My mother encouraged me, and allowed me to play with her makeup kit, so I began wearing makeup on a daily basis. Since then, I have bought & experienced every product I could get my hands on! When I graduated high school, I wanted to gain some qualifications & knowledge relevant to my passion, so I studied Aesthetics & Skin Care at FL College of Natural Health and passed the State Board Exam. I also studied makeup technique & application at Cosmix School of Makeup Artistry in Fort Lauderdale. After that, I started doing makeup for weddings and working part-time for Bill Keefrey Studios in Fort Lauderdale (an amazing photographer!), and the rest is history!
Sarah: Behind every great artist lies a major source of inspiration, tell me, what or who inspired you to become a make-up artist?
Miriam: I love colors, especially the vivid color-combinations and patterns found in birds and flowers. I would definitely like to credit & thank my wonderful life-partner Esther and my family, for encouraging me to pursue my dreams!
Sarah: Tell me a little more about individual make-up products, as well as, brands that you use on a daily basis...
Miriam: Ben Nye, M.A.C, Aromaleigh mineral makeup, Graftobian, RCMA...these are my favorite brands. Ben Nye & M.A.C for blushes and eyeshadows, Graftobian for their lip palettes, and RCMA for their wonderful foundations, especially!
Sarah: Is there one make-up product, you just cannot live without? If so, what is it?
Miriam: Personally? I would have to say M.A.C Fluidline eyeliner & a flat angled brush. Nothing stays put in hot Florida weather like this waterproof gel eyeliner, and you can also use it to shape your eyebrows!
Sarah: Tell me a little more about individual make-up looks that you do on a daily basis...
Miriam: Every situation is unique...whether I'm covering up an unwanted tattoo on a bride's shoulder or doing makeup backstage for Florida Grand Opera...you have to be prepared for anything and everything!
Sarah: Out of every make-up look that you perform, which make-up looks do you tend to do the most often? Which are the most popular?
Miriam: For most weddings, people request a darker "smoky" eye and a natural lip color, and with good reason! It's very flattering and looks great in pictures! A "smoky" eye look can be done with color, but usually browns or grays are preferred.
Sarah: Let's talk about inspired make-up looks. What make-up inspired looks tend to be the most popular?
Miriam: Right now, "that J. Lo glow" is still one of the most popular, but with the 1950's pin-up revival-look enjoying popularity right now, Dita Von Teese's perfect red lipstick and black winged eyeliner!
Sarah: Spring is here and Summer is here. In fact, Summer is here very soon. Do you have any make-up tips especially designed for the hottest season of the year?
Miriam: Wear sunscreen and waterproof eye makeup, and carry a little compact of rice-powder blotting papers with you in your purse, for touch ups. You can get them at any beauty supply store! If you have oily skin, invest in a good oil-control lotion or primer to extend the
life of your makeup!
Sarah: What is one make-up tip you have, that you are positive no other make-up artist on the planet has?
Miriam: Hmm...it's not necessarily about the brand, or the color of the products you use, it's how you apply them. Use good-quality brushes, and clean them regularly! Try different looks, until you find what works best and flatters you! Concealer is your best friend, not only for covering blemishes, but also as a base for your lipstick and eyeshadow, and fixing any little mistakes that you make along the way!
Sarah: When it comes to eyeliner, which is your favorite - pencil, liquid, or gel/cream? Why?
Miriam: Pencil is good for a smudgy, natural look, in situations where it's ok for the color to run or fade a little bit. But if you want a defined line that stays put all day, even underwater, I like M.A.C Fluidline gel eyeliner the best!
Sarah: What is the biggest beauty "don't"?
Miriam: "Don't leave your makeup on when you go to bed!!" Invest in good-quality skincare as well as good-quality makeup. Your makeup can only be as good as your skin.
Sarah: What's next? Do you have any goals you hope to accomplish? Does it just stop here?
Miriam: I would like to be represented by an agency, and join IATSE Local 500.
Sarah: For those reading the interview for the first time, what would you like those people to know?
Miriam: Hiring a professional makeup artist is one of the most important things you can do for a special occasion - we help you feel relaxed and make you look beautiful & flawless on your big day!
Miriam: I'm available for weddings & all special occasions, as well as for theater, production, fashion shows and photo shoots.
