Hungarian Fashion Models
During the past 2 months I have done 1 fashion model photo shoot. During my last month in Hungary none. It is very bad news.
There is another post already about the Belgian model search issues in the first month. Let’s skip to the story of Hungarian fashion models.
By no means I am a superstar fashion photographer who is worshiped by millions but I am used to some excitement and positive feedback when I ask models to do photo shoots with me.
I am talking about free test shoots for portraits, fashion modeling portfolio or for fun. I have not been able to pay to models because my photos are not commissioned to be sold basically I do not receive money from photography (yet).
Hungarian fashion modeling agencies seem to have their star fashion photographers who they are sticking with. I have seen their photos and I am amazed that I am not given a chance but if the choices are to keep wearing the good old comfortable shoes or taking a chance the answer is not hard to guess.
Lately I have been receiving responses from fashion models as I were asking to perform root canals. Which means no responses or one-liner replies saying yes, nice photos a shoot sounds like fun but no answer to my 2nd follow up email regarding a meeting or photo shoot planning.
Some say summer is bad timing to contact models, there is no school everyone is on vacation. Knowing the amount of disposable income of Hungarians nobody is away for the whole summer in Hungary.
Some say when school starts everyone is going to be in town with a more structured life. Well, time will tell but I have a feeling I will get answers back after September saying “I am busy in school now, you should have contacted me during the summer when I was doing nothing”.
Flaky Models Need Love Too
This could very easily turn into a very frustrating situation.
To be part of the solution I decided to look at the flaky models epidemic with an open mind and tried to understand the similarities surrounding all the flaky models who I have encountered.
Why are flaky models flaky? How to predict flaky models? How to deal with flaky models? What to expect and not to expect from flaky models?
On the train ride home from Budapest while digesting the soy sausage I wrote my thoughts down about flaky models: Flaky Models, Zen and Green Skies.
It was therapeutic and might offer some piece of mind to fellow photographers (not sure what effect it will have on flaky models).
