Part 4: Gathering MySpace Friend IDs With Friend Blaster Pro

March 30, 2009

One of the most powerful features of Friend Blaster Pro is to gather MySpace friend IDs and it does an excellent job carrying out that task.

The friend gathering process can be further optimized with custom settings and the resulting list of MySpace IDs can be saved, archived and processed in a variety of ways.

But adding 100’s or 1000’s or relevant MySpace friends is only the beginning of the story, as you continue reading the different parts of this Friend Blaster Pro tutorial series you will see how the pieces (features of this excellent software) fit together forming a complete MySpace marketing tool.

Let’s examine in greater detail what is under the “Gather IDs” tab which is the default workspace view as the program opens (see screen shot below).

Friend Blaster Pro gather IDs

After installation the default state of the option: “Remove from list after sent” is unchecked. Weather or not you wish to check this box depends on your workflow.

I personally have it checked as I want to send out only one friend request, comment, message etc. to the members from the current list I am working with.
There can be reasons not to delete the IDs from the list as it is being processed; for example if you wish to periodically contact the same list of members again and again.

What I do is that I often save the same list multiple times. This method is a bit more involved but offers better organization on the long run (and also can be used for archiving purposes so you never loose a list).
I name one version of a list FILENAME-WORKING.txt and another FILENAME-ORIGINAL.txt.

When processing FILENAME-WORKING.txt I have the “Remove from list after sent” checked and let the list “get used up” eventually going down to zero.
FILENAME-ORIGINAL.txt would be processed with “Remove from list after sent” unchecked therefore its content would never change and could be used again (or Saved As FILENAME-WORKING.txt for future uses).

Gather Friend IDs From Any MySpace Page Which Displays Members

The “Gather ID’s from All Pages” option is great for comment pages, MySpace groups that have thousands of members on hundreds of pages or for popular MySpace members who have tens of thousands of friends.
Friend Blaster Pro will scan all pages, collect all IDs and add them to the a simple text file.

Manage Lists of MySpace profile ID’s

The method you decide to save and name lists depends on your personal preference and workflow.
The following explains the uses and behaviors you will encounter during managing your lists.

“Save list as” means what saving means with any other program

“Save list as” and replacing an existing file (saving over) means replacing the content of that file like with any other program

“Import from file” is the equivalent of opening a file and showing all IDs of the given text document at the time the file was saved (if you have “Remove from list after sent” checked and you saved your list before closing Friend Blaster Pro your list will shrink as you process the IDs)

Note: With “Save on exit” checked Friend Blaster Pro automatically reloads your last displayed list when you reopen the program (but it does not save it anywhere … only stores it in its cache).

“Import from file” can be executed multiple times merging all IDs from multiple files into the current list (this can be done manually as well by opening the text files, copying pasting their contents and saving them)
When importing multiple files it is a good idea to check for duplicates when prompted by the program.

Summary: saving overwrites content, importing merges content.

You can also add to any saved list by first importing the file or files into your current list then continuing to gather IDs.
The great thing is that only unique / new IDs will be added to the list as Friend Blaster Pro will not be adding duplicates.

Full Gather Quick Gather Option:

Friend Blaster Pro Full Gather Quick Gather Option

With Friend Blaster Pro v10.3.5 came an essential feature upgrade: the Full Gather / Quick Gather Option, it adopts to site-wide changes made by MySpace.
Specifically what this feature helps with is that MySpace URLs recently switched from “profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=0123456789” format to “myspace.com/YOURUSERNAME” and the lack of “friendid” in the URL would prevent the collection of IDs.

I am happy to report that the Full Gather / Quick Gather Option works perfectly and collects all IDs from the new URL format!

Check “Import clicked profiles”

Friend Blaster Pro will add any MySpace friend ID automatically to your list that you click on. This is off by default which is the better option for casual browsing. If you know you are clicking through a pool of high quality profiles you can definitely turn this feature on.

How To Skip MySpace CAPTCHA With Friend Blaster Pro

Notice I said skip, not solve. CAPTCHA is designed “not to be solved”, that is its purpose so any MySpace friend adder software that promises you that they can break CAPTCHA they are most likely incorrect in their statement.

Friend Blaster Pro does not promise to solve CAPTCHA but via the Options menu (see screen shot below) you can choose to have FBP skip profiles with CAPTCHA.

MySpace Friend Blaster Pro skip CAPTCHA

This is a double edged sword: you will dramatically reduce the number of CAPTCHA’s you need to enter but you will also skip a large percentage of users and potential friends.
Even if you choose to skip profiles with CAPTCHA you still have to enter those periodic CAPTCHAs that MySpace enforces. Those apply to everyone, whether using a software or accessing MySpace through a regular browser.

I would recommend only skipping profiles with CAPTCHA when the list being processed is not a list of “power users” or VIPs where all members are premium quality and should to be invited.
A non-power users list would be perhaps a list gathered from a Browse Users window. Searches done with a wide scope can afford these CAPTCHA casualties.

UPDATE:
Now you can skip all CAPCTHAs with a new feature MySpace introduced. The verification process requires your mobile number.
You can access this feature under My Account – No More CAPTCHAs:

Hey first off, this is probably the best, most thorough walk-thru of this program, so many thanks.

The only thing I’m stuck on is the “Manage lists” portion of it.

Whats really stumping me is the save & import functions of it.

So I import ID’s, save them as a list title “Myspace Friend ID’s”

Then the next day I want to import the list, does it import the entire thing, or just people I havent sent a friend request to?

Also, when I’ve gathered another days worth of ID’s & I want to add them to the orignal “Myspace Friend ID’s” file so I have one large master list, does it just save over the old list, or will it actually add to it? Because it didnt give me a prompt to re-save it, it just saved the file like normal I guess?

    Hey, awesome.

So if I’m just trying to keep 1 main master file (I will have backups, but I still want ALL the numbers in one file)

I would need to open FBP first, important the old file, then gather new ids then save list as again to?

Does that make sense/sound right to keep all number organized in 1 file?

exactly — but keep “Remove from list after sent” UNCHECKED .. otherwise the list will “shrink” as you process the master list
