Finding Amazing Beauty Inside A Mouse’s Colon – Photomicrography
September 7, 2007
The Nikon Small World Photomicrography Competition website is a great place to appreciate the stunning beauty of the natural world on a really small scale.
I decided to feature a microscopic photography website as soon as I laid my eyes on the 1st Place Winner of 2006 the fantastic blue image (seen above) of the “Cell nuclei of the mouse colon” (740x).
My co-worker next to me was ready to puke.
I love that photo so much I would hang it on my wall! To each their own. :)
Browsing through images taken by scientist through microscopes is a truly fascinating voyage.
Most photographers fit into one or just a handful of genres which means their subject, locations, techniques, composition and finally the outcome are usually similar to each other.
Some photographers can fall into a cookie cutter type of image creation which can be “interrupted” by extreme visual stimulation: looking at something totally new and different.
For example working with humans (models) i.e. taking pictures of Hawaiian swimsuit models is a completely different activity than photographing deep inside the anus of a rodent.
Ironically the above mouse colon photo is a lot more beautiful than what some model photographers have been producing.
It is great visual adventure to look at the works of photographers who represent an entirely different genre, in a way shocking one’s visual world.
It can be an “eye opener” to realize the wide variety of subjects available to photographers.
It can also be inspirational making you to start thinking outside the box.
Take pictures of things you never have! Find a mouse tomorrow!
But be gentle! :)
