Brunette Lingerie Barbie Doll: German Model With Perfect Body
September 10, 2005
Lingerie model photography can often resemble to a real life Barbie doll dress up party.
But the more skin the model reveals the better chance for “minor imperfections” to creep in which were unknown before the photoshoot i.e. bad skin, body hair, stretchmarks, tattoos, scars, burn marks, piercings, birthmarks and those downright scary reptile-like armpits.
These possible hick-ups can of course be eliminated by meeting the model first or viewing bikini photos of her. This was not an option for me while in the midst of one of my European model photography trips where all I could judge from were model agency headshots of their new faces.
Dani the German lingerie model featured in this post fortunately had non of the above characteristics some of us mortals posses and arrived with a perfect female body to our shoot.
She was a brunette Barbie doll on the outside with a pleasant low maintenance attitude.
In Europe it is relatively easy to find safe abandoned locations which have great colors, props, backgrounds and character.
On this photo I like the contrast between the perfect skin of the model and the weathered texture of the door.

But let’s start from the beginning of the shoot which usually begins with fashion model photography. It is less intimidating, provides a warm up period while still retaining some of the Barbie doll dress up party elements that this post is about.
There is great color contrast here between the bright red dress and the faded blue doors.
The red dress has some interesting diagonal lines in its tailoring which are in contrast with the horizontal and vertical lines of the window frames. Graffiti more often adds great patterns to make the photo more visually exciting.

The bold color of red dress really pops in this image. It is fortunate that the graffiti also has red color in it because repeating color adds consistency and balance to many images.

I like to experiment with few different versions of the same setup, different poses, angles, framing, compositions. Some photographers take dozens of images with hardly noticeable differences which I find a bit of a waste of time.
The model hardly looks like the typical German girl and her dark features nicely match with the dark areas of the graffiti wall here.

The beautiful long legs of our Barbie doll are not the only noteworthy visuals in this photo. I am quite certain I did not ask her to lean that way but interestingly her pose is perfectly in sync with the curvature in the graffiti.
It’s just one of those coincidences which happen often and only noticed during the editing process.

Nice female portrait with beautiful flowing long hair. A usual progression during many of my photoshoots; after the safe warm up period of fashion model photography it is time for intimate portraits.

Most of the time the model provides her own wardrobe especially when I am traveling as a backpacker so it was time to photograph the model’s red lingerie and her perfect body.
Open shades provide excellent soft diffused light and subtle shadows, perfect for beauty or intimate style model photography even during the middle of the day when the direct bright sunlight can cast undesirable shadows. Of course reflectors and other studio equipment can combat harsh light but I cannot carry those with me on the road.
The S-shaped curve of the model’s pose nicely accentuates her hips in this photo.

Besides the beautiful long legs of the model there are other notable lines in this photo courtesy of the the brick wall. They provide perspective and guide the viewer’s eyes to the main subject.
Shooting a lingerie model with a perfect body has some obvious advantages: she photographs beautifully from all angles and without the need for Photoshop touch ups later on.

This is a cropped version (cropped in reality not via Photoshop) of the first image of this post. The S-shaped curve of the model’s body is key for this photo to attain grace and be successful as well as the slight tilt of the camera which introduces diagonal lines that convey a dynamic feel.

Intimate apparel photography of perfect female body against graffiti wall is the theme of the next few images.
After a change of lingerie we found a matching background and appropriate color of graffiti for the black bra, panties and stockings. Not only the color pink really nicely contrasts against black but it’s synonymous with femininity and the Barbie doll image.
I like the pose of the model as well, it is natural because I usually don’t direct the model too much. I enjoy studying photos perhaps longer than usual and create my own stories; I just noticed now that the shape of the pink graffiti behind the model’s butt looks like it could be an “artistic heart shape” or if I look longer perhaps a big pink beanbag or chair she is about to sit down into.

Time for a closer look in the form of a portrait; if on the previous photos that heart shaped diamond looking bra decoration (no idea how to call it) was lost now it is perfectly visible here.

A good example about how to slightly vary images taken in succession: when in doubt or out of ideas have your model toss her hair to one side! Tossed hair in portraits or other modeling shots can create a completely different look. It only takes a second and it can add an ear, an earring, a graceful neck, a beautiful shoulder to the previously just OK composition.

Still tossed hair but different crop once again back to the bread and butter fo this photoshoot: brunette lingerie barbie doll in black stockings. We are still in open shade and have our perfect soft light.

Slight variation again this is our lucky day because the perfect female body can be photographer from any angle with great success. Another detail I only noticed during editing: how that wire next to the pipe curves out in sync with the curve of the model’s hip and butt. Just like repeating colors, repeating shapes also add to a balanced, pleasing overtone in many images. I am not sure if anyone would take notice of these details and I am also unsure if they’d do it consciously or unconsciously.

Yes, the model’s hair is tossed to the other side now, you are catching on! In order to create a mixture of natural but dynamic pose I asked the model to simply brush through her hair with her fingers.
The result of the camera tilt makes this photo more visually interesting and all elements just fit and balance out better. Theme can be called: brunette barbie doll lingerie model with beautiful flowing hair.

One more portrait from toward the end of our photoshoot. The interesting thing here is that the photo looks heavily airbrushed but it is not. The model happens to have perfect skin but it is the soft diffused light I have been mentioning throughout this post that eliminates all shades and shadows .. especially head on.
It is great for beauty shots and other photos which you wish to apply soft filter effect. Notice the huge catchlight (specular highlight in a subject’s eye) courtesy of the bright sky as opposed to a large and expensive softbox when shooting in a studio.
