Black And White Picture Of Jennifer Aniston Look-Alike Model

Another “blast from the past” photo viewing experience as I am writing this post in 2009 while going through images taken at the dawn of my model photography adventure.
Several friends and acquaintances were kind enough back then to model for me and let me make all the rookie mistakes which provide invaluable learning opportunities.

Rebecca happens to be a Jennifer Aniston look-alike which cannot hurt any photoshoot.
The location was Diamondhead Beach, a popular uncrowded place for locals and local photographers who wish to get away from the crowds of Waikiki.

A casual but nice and intimate photo; it is great when a photographer finds a non-model, a “regular girl next door” who has personality, intelligence and self confidence so the photos wont have that deer caught in the headlights look.

Here the pose may be a bit awkward but this is the beginning of the photoshoot so considering that Rebecca is doing great. By the way a less than perfect pose can be rescued by a great facial expression like here (being a Jennifer Aniston look-alike also helps).

The above photo was cropped from this one. For a little more intimate look a closer crop can focus the attention on the model. In this wider version more of the location (lava rocks of Diamondhead Crater) shows which can tell more of a story.

Getting a bit more posy here. It is fun to shoot with someone who enjoys the process as opposed to just here to do a job. Which girls does not want to be a model for a day?

This photo gained an interesting perspective when I was sitting on the ground inside a small sand stone cave and the model was leaning on the wall of the cave looking down.

The next photo always reminded me of a Harley-Davidson girl. The dead tree on the beach was a cheaper prop than renting a chopper but the attitude is 100% there (with just enough brawn). Rebecca continued to deliver exceptional eye contact and right on the spot poses, perfect for each scene! There is nothing worse than going through dozens of frames knowing most will end up in the trash bin.

Achieving a nice composition here in accordance with those darn rules of photography which I am not sure I was aware back then. The arrangement of all elements are balanced with a leveled horizon (not corrected in Photoshop). For beginner photographers there is such an overwhelming amount of variables that need to be controlled often the straight horizon suffers.

Casual black and white photo that emphasizes lines. I like how the foreground and the background is blurred placing the focus on the main subject. I am also glad I did not compose the photo with the horizon going through the head of the model (another often committed crime by beginner photographers).

Simple locations like this exotic tropical beach offer uncomplicated backgrounds which are godsend. You can easily create a blurred studio quality background by keeping the aperture wide enough. They help you tell the story better but with minimal distractions. On this photo the dynamic pose is accentuated by the diagonal lines in the background which create visual excitement and drama.

Yes, I know the horizon is not level but tilting the camera is an often utilized compositional technique to introduce diagonal lines which equals excitement. As the sun was coming up as rapidly as it does at the latitude of Hawaii this photo utilizes simple backlighting with the sun being placed behind the model so there are no harsh shadows on the face (and the model retains eye sight).

This is funny. Especially back in the old days I used to get my hands on every photography book and fashion magazine the Hawaii State Library System was able to provide me. I clearly recall being very impressed by the black and white advertising campaign for the jewelry of David Yurman. This photo is clearly inspired by those ads. I remember how much I loved this photo when the prints came back.

Often the David Yurman jewelry ads do not have a person in the photo, only the product. Here I compromised by almost removing the model from the photo. I could have just placed the jewelry on the dead tree trunk but it was a model photo session. So I created a not too suggestive tied up look while eliminating all extraneous elements and only keeping the hands visible.

A look a the awesome location under the Diamondhead Beach Lighthouse. Doing black and white fashion and swimsuit model photography in Hawaii is less common than color photography but I prefer the drama and the simplicity of B&W any day.
