I Am The Best Photographer In The World title might sound catchy or conceited but the real reason is far from me being full of myself.
So who is the best photographer in the world?
I am! … and if you are a fellow photographer … you are too!
Lately I have been experiencing serious doubt regarding weather or not I should continue with fashion and model photography.
I have countless concepts in my head ready to shoot but for more than a year I have been blaming lack of quality models and a series of unfortunate events for lack of results.
After taking inventory I had the feeling that I may not be good enough to make it and me giving up is just me failing. People fail every day, some recover from it and others accept it. Or perhaps it is not failing just time to expand my horizons or change directions.
This decision would be much easier to make without the constant flow of great feedback from people from all over the world like these (courtesy of my ModelMayhem.com page)
“well, thanks but lt me tell you… My work it is not near close to yours. I may have cool background but you have the hole thing right. I can keep looking at your images for hours! Really great work!!!”
“your work is breathtaking and wild”
“Let me know when you are coming to Toronto, because your work is totally amazing and I’d love to have a chance to work with u. “
“Your work is elegant and timeless. One of the most sophisticated ports I’ve seen. Can’t wait to see more!!”
“Wow.. amazing work.. Such a creative eye! Would love to shoot sometime :)”
“absolutely beautiful work!!! just sending you a little comment to let you know your amazing!”
“Your photography is AMAZING….beyond gorgeous and uberly sexy…..you are gifted and highly talented. I love your work.”
Although my main goal is to take photos for my own enjoyment it is an interesting feeling to receive positive feedback.
Fear is almost always the bottom line. What if I were not afraid from not being good enough and just accept that I am the best photographer in the world!
I do not mean walking around and telling it to every person I meet but rather to keep it as a secret (only this post being an exception of course).
Maybe an even better choice of words would be to say: I strive to be the best photographer I can be every day. Not at the expense of putting down other photographers just to do my best and be pleased with whatever the results are at the end of the day.
So I though about what it would mean if I were to be the best photographer in the world BUT SECRETLY.
These are allowed when thinking I am the best photographer:
- following my heart and take any photo I want
- treating all my photos as my own children: love them, be proud of them and realize that they are not all perfect but they are still my special and unique creations!
- allowing myself to make mistakes and stop chasing perfection
- realizing that every moment is unique and priceless, every place or light condition is perfect in its own right
- being completely honest with myself if something worked or something did not and accept imperfections
These are not allowed when thinking I am the best photographer:
- comparing myself to others and thinking I am better than anyone else
- talking or thinking about anyone as a lesser photographer
- blaming models for my lack of results and achievements
- being dishonest with myself and going down a road which leads nowhere
If nothing else this is a start in a different direction. Maybe this is useful information for someone else in the same situation?
Next I will think about what makes a perfect model, I am not sure if I am qualified to comment but I will attempt it in a future post.
I am sure I will come up with something … after all I Am The Best Photographer In The World ![]()
