“In my book” Helmut Newton
His book: Helmut Newton’s SUMO is the largest book published weighting 65 pounds (30 kgs)!
Only 10 thousand copies have been printed of Helmut Newton’s SUMO, all of them signed and numbered by Helmut Newton!
One could say I am a bit of a Helmut Newton groupie.
I have read his Autobiography, visited his exhibition in Berlin (where I browsed through his book: SUMO
probably way too long), watched his documentary DVD (several times): Helmut Newton - Frames from the Edge
rented his other books from the library and in general when I am near a bookstore I stop by the photography section to flip through some Helmut Newton pages.
At the time of this post no Helmut Newton tattoos (yet).
Helmut Newton’s SUMO
“I wanted to build a monument to the most important photographer of the 20th century” says Benedikt Taschen, the publisher behind Helmut Newton’s SUMO.
The book weighs over 65 pounds, more than two feet long (47.2 x 31.5 x 5.9 inches), showcasing the incredible photographic career of Helmut Newton via more than 400 pictures on 480 pages, many of which were published in SUMO for the first time!
Helmut Newton’s SUMO stands on its own book stand which was designed by Philippe Starck, it is also most expensive book production in the 20th century!
I wish that every photographer who is a Helmut Newton fan has a chance if not to own it but to at least touch it and lay eyes on the pages of Helmut Newton’s SUMO!
