I love Firefox web browser and Portable Firefox!
They have made it possible for me to rapidly learn about web design, blogging and the make the most out of my Internet experience.
The same would have been IMPOSSIBLE with Internet Explorer because there is nothing like the Firefox add-ons in the Microsoft product.
Firefox web browser and Portable Firefox provides the user with increased productivity, more security, greater customization and flexibility.
Internet Explorer 7 vs. Firefox 2
Let’s examine solid professional test results, the following findings are from a CNET Prizefight article.
Round 1: Installation
Installing IE 7 requires a reboot and takes forever. Plus the download is giantic, and you have to turn off your virus scanner which doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. Imagine in order to have a lightbulb changed in your house and you have to give out the passwordto your home alarm, no thanks!
IE 7’s installation recommends that we back up important files, close all programs, and eventually restart, while Firefox asks us only to close the old Firefox.
Mozilla Firefox is a small download and installs in about 30 seconds, no reboots are required.
Firefox scans old versions for incompatible extensions, then updates any that were available.
Winner: Firefox 2
Round 2: Look and Community
IE 7’s drastic redesign is likely to alienate users initially rather than wow them.
Firefox destroys IE in the extension and plug-in department.
There are hundreds of tools for Firefox to enable all manner of customizing. IE has extensions too, but not like Firefox.
Winner: Firefox 2
Round 3: Tabbed Browsing
IE 7 includes a New Tab button to the right of your last open tab that takes up unnecessary screen space.
Differences: Firefox makes it easy to reload all tabs; IE has a thumbnail viewer.
Firefox’s tiny drop-down menu next to its tabs is a convenient shortcut for finding recently viewed pages, and its layout offers more room for tabs.
Round 4: Cool New Features
Both browsers recognize when a page has an RSS feed, and both will parse XML and display a readable page instead of code when they see it.
IE will subscribe itself only to feeds, and it doesn’t display RSS content as reliably as Firefox.
Firefox does a much better job of managing feeds: It will let you subscribe in Firefox’s own reader.
Firefox’s Session Saver feature is the biggest improvement, many people who accidentally quit the browser will love it.
Winner: Firefox 2
Round 5: Security and Performance
A phishing filter within IE 7 checks the Web pages you visit using heuristics and a white list of legitimate sites.
Adding antiphishing measures, Firefox 2 offers a choice to check sites from a preexisting blacklist or via Google.
Firefox 2 also offers more customization than IE 7. Firefox has stronger reputation for security and Mozilla has a practice of addressing vulnerabilities soon after they’re discovered even before their latest update.
Winner: Firefox 2
Mozilla Firefox being the better browser is a logical conclusion anyone would arrive at after looking at the differences between the features of Firefox and Internet Explorer.
So why are there so many Firefox haters? Why hate the next generation of web browsers?
Is it that hating is a pass time and favorite type of stress relief for many people?
Is it boredom of serial bulletin board and blog complainers?
Is it job insecurity of Microsoft employees?
Is it fear of change or having learn something new and possibly grow?
Just Google the words: I hate Firefox to see some of the anger aimed towards a web browser.
In the future I will write about the specific details and the features of Mozilla Firefox browser I actually use every day.
