Curvy Amateur Model Photography on Beach in Black and White
Hawaiian nighttime lingerie, bikini and portrait photography is not without challenges especially if executed without professional lights and assistants.
Even when amateur photographers have very limited resources it does not mean they should compromise their creative ideas.
After the concept is decided model selection is the next crucial part to ensure successful photos. Black and white night photography has a dark and dramatic undertone so cute, bubbly or sweet models are not the right choice. The voluptuous model photographed on this page has beauty, strength, confidence and femininity.
Black And White Bikini Model Photography With Voluptuous Model
My choice of location for this photoshoot was the rugged Diamond Head Beach on Oahu, Hawaii which is a popular spot for daytime photography as well.
From picture to picture I will touch upon what I look out for during black and white photography or black and white conversion from color digital files.
Let me start with the importance of shapes. Especially if there is adequate contrast between elements of a composition, shapes will play an even more important role in telling the story.
Just like there is no bad light, there are no bad shapes, only bad use of them. This almost doesn’t need more explanation, I leave the textbook jargon to the photography schools. Just look through your viewfinder and ask yourself if there is harmony and communication between the shapes in your frame?
The model’s body perfectly fits inside the form of the dead tree. The tree trunk curves where the model’s curves are and it is straight and long where the model’s legs can benefit from an elongating effect.
As usual during my photo shoots the pose of the model was not directed, I let her get comfortable and let her effortlessly blend in with her surroundings.

Lines and geometry are almost an obsession with me. Straight, curved, horizontal, vertical, diagonal .. they all assist telling a different story.
The athletic pose of the model stepping over the dead tree involves her limbs bent. The section of the dead tree on the right hand side of the frame also looks like bent limbs of a creature that is laying on its back or perhaps is a crawling spider.
Repeating lines (and repeating shapes or colors for that matter) convey visual harmony and cohesiveness. I am sure many of these messages register only subconsciously with the viewer, nevertheless they are powerful compositional tools.
I love to photograph confident amateur or first time models. Most amateur photographers will eventually shoot models without confidence. From these painful experiences a consensus emerges: self confidence can easily be more valuable than basic beauty. The pose of the model is so natural, that it is not hard to believe that she was photographed as she was actually stepping over the tree trunk.
Black And White Beach Photography Of Bikini Model With Perfect Body
Yes, I call the model’s beautiful body perfect just to “stick it” to the stick figure worshiping advertising industry.
I see a repeating shape in this photo as well. Notice how the curvature of the dead tree follows the curves of the model’s butt and thigh. The straight arms once again create powerful lines pointing towards the face of the model.
Most viewers will automatically concentrate first on the a face (the exception is understandable) so in any composition lines drawn towards the face will inevitable guide the viewers eyes.
Black And White Picture Of Voluptuous Bikini Model Laying On Tree
Night photography can make it easy to create a uniform dark background. A simple backdrop is sometimes hard to come by during on location photography in the daytime. I value the importance of a non-obtrusive background even more with black and white photography as there is no way for color contrast to separate the main subject from the backdrop.
Besides the wood texture and the beautiful shape of the model I really like how her form is separated from the background. She almost looks like a cutout. Her cheek and jaw line looks more defined and stronger which is very appropriate for dramatic black and white photography theme.
The lack of eye contact adds a dreamy, distant mood to the photograph which I find a lot more fitting for this composition and concept than direct eye contact.
Confident Black And White Portrait Of Amateur Lingerie Model
I like that there is only a hint of the voluptuous figure of the model in this portrait and it is not in your face obvious. The one shoulder up look is elegant and conveys attitude which is in harmony with her facial expression.
This is why black and white photography requires a special type of model selection in my opinion. Curves, strong features, big eyes will always make the creation of a more dramatic photo easier. You gotta have the basic ingredients for every recipe.
Night Photography Of Voluptuous Lingerie Model On Diamond Head Beach
So here we can recognize some of the earlier discussed attributes in one frame. A beautiful, voluptuous model with confidence, posing without confusing instructions against a simple dark background, and I don’t have to point out the repeating shapes either.
Because the color of the lingerie is red, this photo really pops in the color version but I find it beautiful in a different way as a black and white conversion too.
Black And White Fashion Model Photography On Windy Beach
The warm Hawaii Tradewinds can be a great substitute for those large fashion photography fans used be professional photographers. Here the windblown shirt adds realism and a dynamic feel that makes the picture more alive.
I have had many very windy on location photoshoots in Hawaii. If there is no way to shield the model from the wind it is best just to embrace it by turning the model towards the wind and incorporate the effect in the composition.
Casual, Candid Black And White Photography With Beautiful Curvy Model
I love those stolen real moments that can be captured between poses. There is no reason to direct models “not to pose” as to them not posing is a form of posing as it involves a direction and interference from the photographer. These casual moments will happen on their own, all the photographer has to do is stay receptive by constantly looking and shooting.
I find this picture effortless especially because I remember how naturally it came about but I hope the same feeling is conveyed to the viewers as well.
Beautiful Black And White Picture Of Celine Dion Celebrity Look-Alike
The photographer will be richly rewarded for continuously exploring every setup and for shooting every scenario in a wide variety of styles. Until I saw this beautiful portrait of an otherwise strong confident model, I never thought that for one frame she would transform into a Celine Dion celebrity look-alike. I see it, do you?
Voluptuous Lingerie Model Arching Her Back On Diamond Head Beach, Hawaii
Texture and black and white photography comes to mind when I look at this picture. The mosaic-like pattern on the lava rock is helps with telling a more complete story to the viewer about the location.
I also like the visual effect of the light falloff from the flash, how the background is not completely black like in previous photos where only the ocean and sky was behind the model. This adds a three dimensional look to the image.
An obvious note on choice of wardrobe for black and white night photography: whites or bright colors are key as they are the only way to add a pop to the images in the absence of colors.

I only discovered a great example of repeating shapes when reviewing this photography during editing and did not see it as I was taking this picture. Notice how the lava rock curves in the background in harmony with the model’s chest. On location photography often results in gifts like this which make it a completely different process from studio photography.
I find this portrait really beautiful and once again effortless. The unfortunately named wife beater shirt has long been one of my favorite wardrobe choices. It is easily relatable and quite hot on an attractive model (as opposed to your neighborhood plumber).
Although not pre-planned, the model’s bent right arm creates a picture frame around her face. Her left hand covering up the see-through white wife beater is a playful addition.
I like how the model’s mouth is slightly open and her white teeth repeat the white color of the wife beater shirt.
Classic Black And White Female Portrait With Bare Shoulder
Minimalist compositions go hand in hand with black and white photography. Already a cliche but true is that “what you leave out is just as important as what you leave in”.
I only left in the beautiful profile of the model, the curve of her elegant shoulder and her long cascading hair.
Once again the black background is void of any distractions delivering only what matters: the main subject.

Literally stepping back from the previous minimalist composition there is another chance to tell a new story about the beautiful woman with the long hair. I like the playful, Paris Hilton signature look over the shoulder.
Unlike in the case of the minimalist composition where I removed the model’s birthmark from her shoulder, on this picture I decided to leave them untouched. From her shoulder towards her back all three birthmarks line up like a star constellation.
Provocative Black And White Photograph Of Voluptuous Model
This pose with a healthy dose of attitude is a good way to end this post. This photo was actually one of the last frames so perhaps the effects of a long and demanding photoshoot are visible on the model’s face.
I love how the white shirt accidentally opened up and the accompanying “what are you looking at” mood of the picture.
